Abstract:This study is designed to analyze the career development needs of scientific and technological workers. Based on the questionnaire survey of 4024 scientific and technological workers and the group interview of 33 scientific and technological workers in Anhui province, the concerns of career development are systematically analyzed from six aspects, including talent training and support, talent evaluation and discovery, academic cooperation and communication, service for the integration of science, technology and economy, science communication, as well as scientific research environment and style of study construction. The results show that scientific and technological workers report their strong development needs in six aspects, including 1) the strong needs of knowledge renewal, long-term and adequate research funding, and more autonomous scientific research environment; 2) the appealing to classified evaluation of talents, socialized evaluation of talents in non-public sectors, and undemanding evaluation environment for young scientific and technological talents; 3) the expectations for high-level transdisciplinary academic exchange channels and platforms; 4) the urgent requirements of establishing and optimizing industry-university-research cooperation mechanism as well as professional services for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements; 5) the needs for platforms in regard to science popularization ability training, co-ordination of supplying and demanding popular science product, and the popular science service; 6) the expectation for the academic atmosphere of freedom and democracy as well as the effective pathway of protecting rights. Based on these, suggestions are put forward to better meet the career development needs of science and technology workers.
